Metal-Free
Environment
Great care was taken
to ensure that the Clean Room Suite would last for many years. One
of the major concerns in the CRS is corrosion. Large quantities of
acids are used and stored in the CRS. Two steps were taken to battle
the effects of acid fumes in the environment. One of these steps
was with the use of non-corrosive materials. All casework is constructed
of Formica and/or melamine coated particle board. There are no metallic
drawer glides or nylon slides for cabinets. Counter tops were manufactured
from Corian and the vinyl flooring is coved as to create a "bathtub" effect.
Floor drains can be found throughout the CRS to aid clean up in the event
of a major spill. All plumbing fixtures are plastic and glass pipe
was used in all sink drains. Where it was impossible to avoid the
use of metallic hardware (i.e. door closing mechanisms, magnetic interlocks)
items are coated with polyurethane. The polyurethane coating is inspected
and maintained on a regular basis.
