Dr. Grottoli Tweeting from Mexico

Posted by: Michael Seufer

Dr. Grottoli and her graduate student Stephen Levas are currently conducting research on corals in Puerto Morales, Mexico. They are conducting experiments, in collaboration with Dr. Mark Warner (University of Delaware), to determine what physiological traits impart resilience in corals to heat stress. As the planet continues to warm, corals are more and more prone to heat stress which causes coral bleaching and can lead to mass mortality. However, some corals always survive. Dr. Grottoli's research goal is to identify which traits and/or species are more resilient and are more likely to survive repeat bleaching. She is currently micro-blogging about the fieldwork at www.twitter.com/CoralResearch
