SES Students Win Undergraduate Research Grants
Posted by: Michael Seufer
Geological Sciences undergraduate majors Claire Mondro and Justin Von Bargen were two of only 50 undergraduate students from all majors at Ohio State whose proposals for Undergraduate Student Government Academic Enrichment Grants were funded for Spring quarter 2009. Claire and Justin are studying carbon sequestration in soils and organic carbon transport in streams of small mountainous watersheds, research performed under the direction of Anne Carey.
Both Claire and Justin were funded for the full amount of $500 to support their research. A committee of students and faculty reviewed the applications based on personal significance of the project, creativity, strength of recommendation letter, as well as project objective and focus. More than 150 outstanding applications and only 50 could be chosen for funding. All students receiving these grants will be honored at a reception in April.
