Bevis, Caccamise win Heiskanen Awards

Posted by: Michael Seufer

It is my pleasure to announce this year's (2008) Heiskanen Award Recipients.

Heiskanen award: Dr. Mike Bevis
Junior Heiskanen award:Dana Caccamise

The Heiskanen award is presented annually to the individual who has most forwarded the cause of geodesy at OSU (see description of award at http://geodeticscience.osu.edu/AboutUs_endow_award.htm).

Dr. Mike Bevis has shown tremendous leadership over the last two years in elevating geodesy at OSU to new heights; he has been inspirational in reaching out to neighboring disciplines in the Earth Sciences - the type of interaction geodesy at OSU needs and will benefit from in the future.

Dana Caccamise is a dynamic research staff of Dr. Bevis who often goes out of his way to accomplish goals and along the way he directly benefits geodesy at OSU. He performs above and beyond duty in helping faculty/staff/students and supporting the overall research program. The Division this year agreed to include a cash award in this category to show its particular gratitude for Dana's limitless enthusiasm to support the program.

Thank you all for your nominations.

On behalf of the Division of Geodesy and Geospatial Science

Dr. Chris Jekeli
