Subject: Auto-focus option
While it remains to be seen whether we'll have enough $$, we are
considering purchasing the "auto-focus" option for our Cameca. If any
facility is using this option please contact me.
cheers, shaf

I've had good success with retipped W filaments on our MBX and Hitachi SEM
from EBTEC (used to be called Energy Beam Sciences). Cost is about
$9/filament.

Mike Dorais enquired about companies that re-build filaments for the SX50.
We've been using Energy Beam Sciences, P.O. Box 468, 11 Bowles Road,
Agawam MA 01001 (413-786-9322) and had pretty good success. Their price
was $9.50 per filament, as of July, 1993.

Dear Mike,
I have had good luck with Energy Beam Sciences (EBTEC), 11 Bowles
Road, PO Box 468, Agawam, MA 01001, 413-786-9322, FAX 413-789-2786. As I
recall, they charged a little under $ 200 for a 12-pack of rebuilds (you
send your burn-outs to them). EBTEC specializes in filaments and other
SEM supplies. They sent the rebuilds in a classy wood holder.
Quality seemed at least comparable to the Cameca originals. One
filament, I remember, appeared to last forever like the ancient lightbulb
in Pynchon's Gravity's Rainbow.
I do not own stock in EBTEC.
Regards,
Nick Pingitore - UTEP

I have had good quality from Energy Beam Sciences (413) 786-9322. The SEMQ
filaments are $18.00 each rebuilt.

A Canadian source of rebuilt SX50 filaments is
SOQUELEC
5757 Cavendish Blvd., Suite 101
Montreal, Que. H4W 2W8
I ordered a few in 1991, I tried one and experienced beam problems which
prompted me to go back to the Cameca-supplied filaments, but it turned
out the cause of the problems was somewhere else. I still have to give
them a second try. At the time, they cost slightly less than $20 CDN each.

I have been using rebuilt filaments supplied by SOQUELEC for about three
years and have had no problems with them.
