All,
Many people use a natural scapolite or apatite for Cl, but these are
not ideal as they are relatively low in Cl. A Cl-rich scapolite can be
obtained free from the Smithsonian Inst. Even worse is the use of NaCl
or KCl as they are so easily damaged by the probe beam and of course are
very sensitive to water. We use a synthetic Ba-Cl apatite, which has
maximum Cl (for an apatite) but the disadvantage of a relatively high Z.
Charlie Prewitt provided us with a small quantity when we found the
natural equivalent, called alforsite.
