Subject: Re: Thanks and More on Quant EDS
From: christoffersen@snmail.jsc.nasa.gov

Thanks to those who replied to my question on detector icing/contamination and
quant EDS. Given that my paranoia has now been validated and I want to be more
circumspect about the problem I am looking for a standard to check for
anomalous absorption effects in our detector. Tony Garrett-Reed suggested using
powdered CoO, but I worry about absorption effects from small particles with
variable thickness and geometry. My Link tech person suggested using the K and
L peaks from a Ni metal thin film (hence no absorption effects), which he says
is commercially available. However I checked my catalogues and the usual
companies (SPI, Pella etc.) don't seem to sell this item.
Question: Does anyone know where we can get a Ni thin film standard for EDS?
Thanks.
