Tom:
Thanks for the update. I am somewhat surprised by the apparent lack of
response to the draft of the letter to be sent to Cameca, given the initial
more favorable response I received several months ago regarding forming an
SX50 users group. On retrospect, perhaps it may be due to the somewhat
confrontational and (too?) specific nature of the letter which you quoted
Ken Severin as saying sounded like a "Cameca SX-50 Sun System Users Group".

I feel that the specifics of the letter are secondary to the fact that
we are beginning to unite amongst ourselves. We don't want to turn off
people who see a real benefit to a users group, but who may not have had
the severity of problems that some of us may have had, or who feel they
have a good or tolerable working relation with the Stamford service dept.
Of course, we shouldn't wait until every single user signs on, but we
should try to unite as many users initially -- say 15-20 labs, by say Jan
21. By my count, we have 8 labs signed on now; I believe E. Vicenzi
(Princeton) will sign on to a modified letter like the one John Valley and
I worked on, as well as M. Whitehead (CF Minerals) who I spoke with a few
days ago.
Let me know asap what other comments other users have, send me the
revised draft letter and I will retransmit it to the email list. I will
also call, next week, several users that I know to see if they will sign or
if not, their reasons.

John
