Dear John,
As one of the older users (both relative and absolute) there has
been suggestions for this type of group but noone with the time. I'm glad
to do what I can but have too many interests to spread myself much thinner.
I have spent some six weeks in Brazil (3 SX-50's) and Puerto Rico
mostly teaching and helping as a link between machine s and geology. You
may wish to add their names to whatever comes out of this.

With respect to the imaging problem, I have found that the Cameca imaging
is inferior to commercial packages or even free packages. I have 3ed party
imaging software (I represent the company and make a few bucks) which runs
on the Mac, does standard modes, center coordinates etc. To get this to
work I collect images using the cameca software, then sent to Mac for
processing. My warning is that one always as an idea that all this can be
done automatically; this is a good way to get lots of wrong data and
certainly no experience with the techniques. Maybe this is old fashioned
but I think is closer to reality.
I also have a list of parts suppliers for some things which some people
have found useful. It may save some time for repairs and reduce phone
calls.
I also sell (obviously I am money conscious) a digitizing stage and
microscope system. I note that cameca also now sells one but for far more
money with second rate components. I will be advertising this generally as
I have had quite a few inquiries.
Best regards,
Ian Steele
