Thanks John for all the information. Just a few sentences about waht's going on here.
Yesterday, I met Sam for the first time. I was favorably impressed. he seems
to know the machine as well (or better) than anyone in the US. He adjusted
our pirani gauges so that we are no longer always reading a minimun pressure
ie 1 10-1. PWDS now reads 4x 10E0. He also updated software?firmware? (I wasn't
in the lab at the time) that eliminates the message "filament out" that would
sometime appear during sample changes. He asked me to keep an eye on the gun
pressure because the filament stays heated when using the airlock. This
has never been a problem in the past so I'm not worried, the gun pressure
during a sample change is typically in the 10E-6 Pa range.
ALso you might be interested to know that I'm trying to get PGT to repackage
their hardware in a different cabinet that will fitr under the SX console
table. This is clearly not as important to you since your lab is so large
but with my limited space it will make a significant difference.
Another PGT related issue: I've ask them to try and work-out why their are
verticle displacements on digital beam images. Note that when PGT takes
control of the beam they raster up and down, left to right, so the problem
must be related to synchronization in some way.
Talk to you soon.
