The Ohio State University Department of Geological Sciences has recruited nationally and internationally distinguished faculty who have garnered numerous awards. The department is proud to claim a National Academy of Sciences member, three Fellows of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), and two Ohio Eminent Scholars. In the last five years, our researchers have been awarded over 20 million dollars in grants from agencies such as DOE, EPA, NASA, NIH, NOAA, and NSF. The most recent ranking by the National Science Foundation places the Ohio State University as one of the top ten public research universities in the country.
The department is comprised of 34 full-time faculty, including several distinguished professors such as Dr. Lonnie Thompson (National Academy of Sciences member ), Dr. Frank Schwartz (Ohio Eminent Scholar), Dr. Micheal Bevis (Ohio Eminent Scholar), and three Fellows of the AAAS (Drs. Ausich, Lyons, and Thompson). Our faculty members are actively engaged in research in their respective fields, bringing cutting-edge research and expertise into the classroom.
