Why
did you choose Ohio State?
One of my favorite undergraduate professors
had spent his whole student career at OSU so I decided to look into
it. When I saw the type of research Terry did, I was hooked. I had also
heard that Columbus is a great city (which it is), though it wasn’t
really a deciding factor.
Why
did you choose to work with Terry?
Terry was one of the only structural geologists
I found that looks at the larger tectonic aspect rather than microstructures.
I like regional geology (mapping!) more than smaller things (‘scope
work).
What
is your most memorable or favorite moment from the field?
Wrestling
in the snow in Antarctica (I took Mike and Jerome DOWN!) and sleeping
in a trench in the Ross Ice Shelf.
What
do you hope to do after graduate school?
I’m signed up to work for a remote
sensing geology firm in D.C.
Favorite
quote?
Everyone should learn to dig in the dirt
and read books. –Paul Harvey.
What advice would you give to incoming students?
There are an infinite number of things
you can do for your research- do one that you like, but make sure it
frustrates you from time to time so that you don’t get complacent.
That’s pretty much guaranteed with whatever you choose, though.
There’s always more to learn!
